A rundown of the news making headlines in and around China: DeepSeek: Some of China’s more prominent cities are racing to incorporate DeepSeek’s artificial intelligence (AI) models into their public service systems. As of Feb. 21, cities including the southern boomtown of Shenzhen, Guangdong provincial capital Guangzhou, and Hohhot, the capital of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, have incorporated the AI models into their systems. The integration helps local governments with tasks such as producing documents, analyzing data and providing policy consultations. DeepSeek shook up the AI industry earlier this year after news broke that its models were nearly as good as the industry leaders despite costing far less to develop. Since then, many big Chinese tech companies have rushed to integrate the models into their search engines and other offerings.
