Summary: The 81st Venice Film Festival has come to a close, with Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar’s “The Next Room” winning the coveted Golden Lion for Best Picture. The film tells the story of a terminally ill woman who pleads with her best friend to accompany her in her final moments. The film is adapted from the novel “What You Lack” by Nunez. Almodóvar, known for his films “All About My Mother” and “Talk to Her,” both of which won Oscars, has created his first English-language film with “The Next Room.” Australian actress Nicole Kidman won the Golden Lion for Best Actress for her performance in “Babygirl.” French actor Vincent Lindon was awarded Best Actor. Italian director Maura Delpero’s “Vermilion” received the Grand Jury Prize.
